Congratulations to Shag Rock for going GOLD for 'Sunbleached Girl' in Australia. Quite the accomplishment to achieve this with ZERO commercial or national radio support. No radio programmer has anointed them as cool and told people to listen. People actually like it. Genuinely. Listen HERE

A MESSAGE FROM IAN HAUG

Hello Airlockers.

So…. after running the studio for over 20 years, and the label for around 8 years, I am finally getting around to do a newsletter/ blog thing. Theres always so much talent coming through our doors, and I would love to share it with the world. With a new website and new people working with me here at the coal face - it seems like the appropriate time.

Firstly. Thankyou for signing up to the Newsletter.  Please tell your friends to subscribe, and support local independent music.  Sign up to their socials…follow them, buy their music and merch and everything. Everyone needs as much support as you can afford.

I can’t believe that it’s nearly the end of 2021. What a wild ride that it’s been for everyone. Particularly for the whole music world!!

Every time there has been glimmers of hope for live touring, either interstate and internationally, there have been setbacks. On the home front here in Queensland we have been relatively lucky and there have been shows at limited capacity through much of the time, but even this in itself has been a bittersweet situation that has been unsustainable financially for venues and musicians and everyone associated. Hopefully 2022 is the way out of this.

The border closures internationally and domestically have also meant the forced separations of families and loved ones. I can relate to this on a personal level. But thats another story. Thankfully there is light at the end of the tunnel in my case. 2 days to go. 651 days later. sheesh!!!!!! Enough of my whinging.

All the while during this whole shimozzle- people have been busy creating material and in lots of cases, managing to be able to capture it at Airlock Studios - my lovely place in Samford Queensland.

We have hosted LOTS of sessions over this time, and it would take up too much time to mention everything now…. in this 1st issue of our blog / newsletter… but I just want to do a huge shout out to everyone that has come along to Airlock and recorded their projects. Big and small. Light and Heavy. People from all walks of life. Music really does make the world go round.

We’ve had a lot going on recently on the Airlock Records label, and much of it can be heard on our Spotify playlist.

We’ve has 18 releases through the label over the last 5 months, and there have been many many other recordings released independently by bands.

Thankyou to the whole Airlock team for making this all possible, particularly Emily who is the Queen of Airlock’s day to day happenings, and to Steve who has worked his butt off throughout the year, all whilst juggling two young kids.

I even managed to make a record with my band The Predators this year, which I am very proud of, and very grateful for everyone that helped in its creation. Notably Steve who engineered, and Doig who did all the arty worky stuff.

Anyway - with brevity in mind - I will sign off for now and with all of you a Happy and Safe end of Year CELEBRATIONS. Merry Christmas and all that.

Be good. or be good at it.

Peace, Love and Guitars.

Ian
